Water first, the rest will follow later

In our previous blog posts we talked about how providing information and protection can contribute to your safety. But what if it’s already too late? What if an incident with chemical products has occurred? We’ll take a brief look at that.

As children we were always told: “Water first, the rest will follow later”. This is no different where chemical reactions are concerned: it’s incredibly important for the product to be removed immediately.

Eyes: rinse with water for 15 minutes. Make sure the eyelids are open. Always consult a doctor afterwards.

Skin: rinse with water for 15 minutes. Contaminated clothes must be instantly removed. Be sure to wear gloves when doing so. If in doubt, consult a doctor.

Mouth: rinse thoroughly with water. Read the safety information and contact a doctor.

Inhalation of a chemical: make sure the person is brought out to fresh air as quickly as possible. Read the safety information and contact a doctor.

If you end up going to the hospital, don’t forget to bring along the chemical product’s name and label. They can then provide you with the appropriate care.
